Objectives and Content
Condensation problems, and mould growth in severe cases, are not new but they do seem to becoming increasingly problematic as we are faced with challenges of making our properties more energy efficient.
The introduction of thermal insulation, blocking up draughts to reduce ventilation and the resulting increase in internal Relative Humidity are all relevant factors to the signs of condensation that building users are seeing. This can be especially problematic in buildings that have high Relative Humidity and low (or sporadic) heating.
The building pathology consequences can be immediate and there are potential health impacts too.
Building pathology is a core technical skill of all professionals who inspect buildings of any age or use. Modern buildings, and especially those that have been through alterations, retrofit projects or ‘modernisations’ are likely to have building pathology defects too. This is not only an issue for older and historic buildings.
This session covers the visuals clues to identify condensation and moulds, the science behind why it happens and gives you tips to how you can report it back to your clients with practical advice on options to solve the problem.
Suitability
This training is suitable for everyone, regardless of background or experience. No prior knowledge or qualifications is required. It is taught in English, so you must have a good use of the English language.
The training is intended to be of most value to RICS surveyors but it will also be useful to surveyors who are members of other professional groups, students, post-grad students, apprentices and those who might be seeking a career change later in life.
More Training Available In-Person
This online CPD webinar will provide the basic information to help you better understand this topic and give you improved confidence for when you are faced with it during an inspection.
We also have in-person training dates which you might find of interest. We firmly believe that the very best way to learn is through practical experience.
